Frequently Asked Questions

Planning an elopement can feel like a big adventure, and we’re here to make it easy. Below you'll find answers to our most commonly asked questions about California elopements, our packages, and what to expect when you work with Range of Light Wed

FAQ

  • What is an elopement, and how is it different from a traditional wedding?

An elopement is an intimate, intentionally scaled-back wedding focused entirely on your love story. Think: less pressure, more presence. Instead of hundreds of guests and a packed timeline, elopements are all about connection, nature, and experiences that feel authentically you. It can be just the two of you, or include a handful of your closest humans (up to 15, in our case).

  • What’s included in your full-service elopement packages?

Our full-service packages are designed to take the stress out of planning. They typically include:

Planning guidance and custom location scouting

    A professional elopement photographer

    An officiant

    Permit guidance (if needed)

    A detailed elopement day timeline

    Local vendor recommendations

Optional ceremony enhancements (like florals, picnic setup, etc.)

Exact details may vary by package—but every one of them comes with heart, adventure, and zero overwhelm.

  • Do you help us choose the location?

Absolutely. Location is everything, and we know California like the back of our camera hand. Whether you're dreaming of Yosemite granite, redwood cathedrals, coastal cliffs, or alpine lakes, we’ll help you find the perfect spot based on your vision, accessibility needs, season, and vibe.

  • Can we bring our dog?

Heck yes! We're all about fur-babies at your elopement! Just let us know in advance so we can make sure your chosen location is pet-friendly and offer tips to keep your pup comfy and safe on the big day.

  • How far in advance should we book?

We recommend booking at least 4–6 months in advance for the best availability, especially if you have a specific date or season in mind. That said, if your heart says "let’s do this next month!" - reach out. We’ve pulled off stunning last-minute elopements with just a few weeks’ notice.

  • What happens if the weather doesn’t cooperate on our elopement day?

Ah, the great outdoors - beautiful, but sometimes unpredictable! We always build a flexible timeline with weather in mind and scout backup spots just in case. If light rain or snow shows up, we lean in (umbrellas, cozy layers, and all). If conditions are truly unsafe or unworkable, we’ll work together to reschedule or pivot to a new plan. At the end of the day, some of the most magical moments come from unexpected weather, foggy mountain peaks, dramatic skies, golden rain-kissed meadows? Yes, please.
